Western Diamondback Rattlesnake, note the black & white stripes next to the rattle. This is where the snake gets it's nickname "coon tail rattler". The diamondback is widespread and can be found in many of the same areas as the Mojave Green rattlesnake in AZ, CA, TX and NM. They look very much the same but one way the Mojave can be identified easily is by looking at the striped tail. In the Mojave the black stripes are only about half as wide as the white, while in the Western Diamondback the colors are usually close to the same width.
